FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1994--Blyth Software Inc. (NASDAQ:BLYH) Tuesday announced the availability of TrueAccess, a powerful new client/server data access tool for corporate computing environments.

TrueAccess is Blyth's response to the critical market need for simple, efficient end-user access to enterprise-wide information across multiple platforms and servers without sacrificing security and control. With the introduction of TrueAccess, Blyth Software defines a whole new class of tools for client/server end-user access with both multi-level security and end-user ease-of-use in mind.

TrueAccess addresses the needs of both database administrators and end users across the enterprise. It gives IS administrators the ability to leverage increased control and security with less overhead and effort, and to carefully regulate data access according to multiple levels of security: by privilege, group and data object.

End users benefit from enhanced productivity as TrueAccess hides platform differences and provides an SQL-free GUI interface for simple data access and queries.

Increased Security for IS Organizations

Reduced Costs and Increased Scalability

Typically, IS support personnel must manage and secure multiple interconnections, develop for multiple platforms, help users migrate between platforms and provide administration for multiple systems. TrueAccess presents a single front end and reduces the number of connections between users and databases, thus many of the costs and stumbling blocks associated with client-server systems are eliminated.

In addition, TrueAccess enables administrators to flexibly create and manage group and user information as well as platform and database information. Administrators may choose to delegate some functions to the workgroup which helps relieve support backlogs and other information bottlenecks.

According to a recent Gartner Group study, supporting multiple platforms is three to five times as expensive as single platforms, and that support for end users accounts for approximately 85% of total IS costs (Datamation, February 1994).

TrueAccess is the first data access tool that actually increases security and control while simultaneously opening up data access directly to end users. With TrueAccess on the desktop, users can gather information quickly and independently, reducing the need for IS personnel to access it for them.

Simple Access to Data for End Users

The key enabling technology in TrueAccess for end users is the ability of administrators to create simplified, user-oriented views of data called `vistas.' Using a vista, end users can access data anywhere in the enterprise without knowing SQL.

To make information more usable, administrators can add business-oriented, user-friendly descriptions to all database objects, orient data to task functions, and group queries by business function.

User queries are generated automatically from GUI point-and-click specifications which eliminates the need for SQL. Overall, end users benefit from direct access to real-time data without being dependent on IS personnel for creating or running queries and reports.
