Mobile software solutions provider Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND) announced on Tuesday (13 September) that it has launched a new XTNDAccess Blue Software Development Kit (SDK) for Linux, enabling developers to implement Bluetooth capabilities on devices using a Linux operating system.

Running as a module to Linux kernel version 2.4, XTNDAccess Blue SDK for Linux, is able to stack profiles and its Linux integration modules are delivered in a source code form designed for developers of small, embedded devices.

According to the company, the core protocol stack (architecture) Core Protocol Stack -

1. A portion of the Web Services architecture for defining and describing various Web Services.

2. The architectural protocol layers of a Bluetooth wireless communication system, comprising the Host Control Interface (HCI), Logical
 functionality includes support for HCI, L2CAP, RFCOMM (protocol) RFCOMM - (RS232 Serial Cable Emulation Profile) A Bluetooth transport protocol in the Core Protocol Stack based on the ETSI standard.

, OBEX, and the Service Discovery, Serial Port, Generic Object Exchange, File Transfer, Object Push, and Dial Up Networking profiles. The company also offers additional qualified profiles such as the Human Interface Device profile, with additional profile support for Headset, Hands-Free, and Audio/Video being scheduled for delivery by the end of 2005.

In addition the new offering is to be qualified in September 2005 by a Bluetooth Qualification Body (BQB) from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is the body that oversees the development of Bluetooth standards and the licensing of the Bluetooth technologies and trademarks to manufacturers.  (SIG).

The XTNDAccess Blue SDK for Linux is available immediately and comes with a full maintenance and support programme. No pricing information was available.
