Bluetooth and Wireless LAN--phoney war. (Wireless Progress).

In a White Paper entitled'Bluetooth and Wi-Fi' Hunn predicts that by 2006 Bluetooth chip manufacturers will sell as manyproducts in one week as 802. 11b Wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  (Wi-Fi) specialists ship in one year. The time has therefore come for the two standards to call a trace and agree that both are successful and complementary.

Comment:

As Bluetooth becomes better recognised from its handset penetration Handset penetration is a term generally used to describe the number of people (usually as a percentage) within a specific population owning handsets (mobile phones). For example handset penetration in most West European countries stands at over 50% as of 2004. , the range of business and consumer applications involving laptops, PDAs and PCs will also rise, Wi-Fi' will be used for wireless network access, and Bluetooth will continue to serve as a cable replacement and personal area networking solution.
