Blues must go for quality buys.

IT IS not necessarily what you have to spend, but how you spend it.

That's Gary McSheffrey's view on Blues' chances of boosting the squad in the January transfer window.

Carson Yeung has pledged between pounds 20 million to pounds 40 million will be available to manager Alex McLeish. "It's not about quantity or how much money you spend," said McSheffrey.

"It's about getting the right players, good players out there who won't necessarily cost a great deal of money.

"There have been some great free transfers who have come off at certain clubs in recent years for example.

"It's opinions, of course, and the more money you have the more chance you've probably got. But it's about bringing in the right type of players."

Yeung's war chest has been gratefully received as a good thing by McLeish.

McSheffrey, who remains available for transfer, joked: "For me, it will probably be a bad thing - I could be out the door.

"If the club want to go forward and get to the next level then, yes, the money will be welcome.

"You have just got to make sure then that you invest it wisely."
