As many as 1.1 million young people ages 12-17 have taken PEDs or sports supplements. "This is not a problem that is going away anytime soon, and it is imperative that we take a stand against performance-enhancing drugs," said Tennessee Titans Coach Jeff Fisher. "Whether it's an NFL NFL

Other elements of the Healthy Competition program include an informational brochure on PEDs, a tip sheet for parents and coaches on talking to teens about the problem, and a handout coaches can provide to athletes to educate them about the dangers of PEDs use and ways to train safely. Additionally, an informative Web site, www.HealthyCompetitionTN.org, will launch in October.

This fall, BlueCross will begin surveying high school coaches, administrators, athletes and parents about PEDs. BlueCross and TSSAA hope the results from these surveys will help better measure the scope of PED use across Tennessee.
