NCQA is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans. It is governed by a board of directors that includes employers, consumer and labor representatives, health plans, quality experts, policy makers and representatives from organized medicine. "Excellent" is the highest level accreditation status.

"It is partly a health plan's members that determine whether it earns NCQA's Excellent Accreditation status. Any plan that does so should be proud of its accomplishment.
