Blue Wave Systems Receives $1.4 Million Order From Tekelec for ComStruct Product.CARROLLTON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 1999-- Blue Wave Systems (Nasdaq/NMS:BWSI) has received an initial production order valued at more than $1.4 million from Tekelec (Nasdaq/NMS:TKLC), Morrisville, N.C., a premier supplier of advanced network switching and diagnostic systems. The order covers products from Blue Wave Systems' recently released ComStruct(TM) Communications Building Blocks product line, including FACT system software and CPCI/C6400 DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive processor boards. ComStruct is a critically acclaimed family of DSP building block products designed to dramatically shorten the development time and expense required by designers of high-end telecommunications products. The products will be incorporated into Tekelec's next-generation Message Generator Traffic Simulator (1) Software that enables the execution of an application written for a different computer environment. Same as emulator. (2) Software that models the interactions of hypothetical or real-world objects or business processes. "The high level of functionality in the ComStruct hardware and software product family and the tight integration of its components allow us to extract maximum performance from the DSP hardware without requiring us to become experts in the details of its design and operation. In addition, the flexibility provided by ComStruct's open architecture design easily accommodate our need to run DTMF (Dual-Tone MultiFrequency) The type of audio signals that are generated when you press the buttons on a touch-tone telephone. Kevin Parslow, Blue Wave Systems' Vice President, Worldwide Sales, stated, "We are pleased to announce this important order with tremendous long-term potential for Blue Wave Systems as it ramps to full production. For some time we have been seeing the momentum behind ComStruct steadily build. This order is one of the first pieces of evidence we have been able to release publicly. Considered with the ComStruct product wins we are not yet able to discuss and others we expect to announce soon, we believe we are beginning to realize the potential we always knew ComStruct held."
