Blue Wave Systems ComStruct-TM- Line to Support New Texas Instruments DSP Cores.

Business Editors & High-Tech Writers

CARROLLTON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2000

--Next-generation communications processing solutions to benefit from

increased performance and improved power efficiency--

Blue Wave Systems (Nasdaq:BWSI) today announced that its ComStruct(TM) line will support Texas Instruments' new TMS TMS Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (alternative medicine for depression)
TMS Test Match Special (sports - cricket)
TMS Texas Motor Speedway
TMS Transportation Management System
TMS Toyota Motor Sales

As specialists in the provision of high-density subsystems for communications infrastructure equipment, Blue Wave Systems will use devices based on TI's new DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  cores to fulfill ful·fill also ful·fil

the market demand to increase the number of channels per slot and reduce the power required per channel. While existing ComStruct products are based on the C5000(TM) and C6000(TM) DSP platforms, the C55x(TM) and C64x(TM) DSP devices will enable a new generation of products from Blue Wave to satisfy the rapidly growing voice and data market and next-generation telecom equipment sectors.

Blue Wave foresees applications for the C55x(TM) DSP core to include voice/fax/data over packet infrastructure subsystems on CompactPCI and high-density DSP processing modules on PMC (1) See Portable Media Center.

(2) (PCI Mezzanine Card) A PCI-based mezzanine card that is widely adapted to VMEbus, CompactPCI and PCI cards.
. "Leveraging the huge code base of the C54x(TM) generation in conjunction with our FACT(TM) software framework will bring us to the center of the portable Internet revolution. And with the use of the world's most power-efficient C55x(TM) DSP features, we'll be able to meet the infrastructure requirements for channel density and reduced power demands in the voice and data processing data processing or information processing, operations (e.g., handling, merging, sorting, and computing) performed upon data in accordance with strictly defined procedures, such as recording and summarizing the financial transactions of a  markets," explained Rob Shaddock shaddock: see grapefruit. , Chief Executive Officer at Blue Wave Systems.

As the world's highest performance DSP, the new C64x(TM) DSP core is targeted at infrastructure applications where maximum performance levels are key. Typical applications for the C64x(TM) include voice and video communications, network testing, and 3G base station equipment production. For Blue Wave, the C64x(TM) DSP can provide a significant increase in channel density per CompactPCI slot over current C6000 DSP cores. This new performance capability will enable support for next-generation broadband wireless See wireless broadband.  and multi-media communications services equipment. Shaddock explained, "The C64x(TM) DSP core will allow us to set new standards for delivery of high-channel density subsystems and also to support the drive towards network convergence."

Furthermore, by combining the benefits of Blue Wave's eXpressDSP(TM) real-time software technology based FACT with the code compatibility of the new cores, the transition will be eased significantly, and at a faster rate than ever before, from development through to deployment, explained Shaddock.

FACT is an integral part of Blue Wave's ComStruct line of building blocks for communications processing, which offers a cost-effective, flexible, and scalable DSP solution. FACT software framework supports a range of operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. In practice, many of these groupings may overlap.  and allows customers to easily incorporate commercially available or proprietary algorithms into high-density systems in significantly reduced time scales. FACT is available for rapid development and full deployment of multi-channel telecom infrastructure applications.

At the heart of the ComStruct(TM) line is the company's FACT(TM) software (Framework Architecture for Communication Technologies), which enables the DSP subsystem A unit or device that is part of a larger system. For example, a disk subsystem is a part of a computer system. A bus is a part of the computer. A subsystem usually refers to hardware, but it may be used to describe software.  to be rapidly and effectively deployed in a variety of carrier class telecom applications. Blue Wave Systems has been a market leader in DSP board-level products since 1983. For additional information, please visit our company's web site at www.bluews.com.
