(DSP) platform, based on Texas Instruments' market leading TMS320C54x(TM) DSP Generation, provides telecom system providers with the very high levels of processing power they need to deliver carrier class voice, fax and data services to their enterprise and service provider customers, while also shortening their development cycle time and risk. The board, featuring 20 programmable TMS320C5420 DSPs and four PowerQUICC(TM) microprocessors, is designed to run Telogy's Golden Gateway(R) software package, providing more than 120 channels of simultaneous voice, fax, or data over Internet Protocol See Internet and TCP/IP.

stacks. The new board is also able to accommodate a module with four StrongARM(R) SA-110 processors architected for use with Telogy's GoldenPort software, which enables carrier-class equipment to offload voice, fax and V.90 modem calls from the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S.  (Public Switched Telephone Network) to data networks (IP, FR, and ATM) thereby giving service providers a single class of equipment able to handle voice, fax, or data calls.

The StrongARM processors provide the additional processing power required for modem applications and when fitted with them the CPCI/C5420 is able to support more than 120 channels of Universal Port (voice, fax or V90 modem calls).

"Internet Telephony infrastructure equipment is a target market for Blue Wave's ComStruct(TM) family of building blocks and now with this new board and a close relationship with Telogy Networks, we now have a product that meets the challenging needs of high density voice, fax and data gateway equipment," said Brian Carr, Telecom Business Development Manager for Blue Wave Systems. "The selection of the C5420 DSP for this board recognizes the device's optimal mix of low power and high performance and its software support."

Mark Mattson, Texas Instruments Product Marketing Manager for the TMS320C5000(TM) DSP platform, comments: "Blue Wave and Texas Instruments have enjoyed a long and very successful relationship, particularly with regards to the TMS320C6000(TM) DSP platform where together we have provided customers with the highest-performance leading-edge products. It is very exciting that the relationship has now produced a power efficient, high performing C54x(TM) DSP Generation based solution that combines 20 C5420 DSPs on a single CPCI board. Voice over Internet Protocol is having a major impact and Blue Wave's new VoIP-enabled ComStruct solution will undoubtedly provide developers with a fast track to market."

The combined voice and fax solution will be available to customers in the 2nd quarter of 2000, with additional GoldenPort data modem termination software available in the third quarter. Pricing for 100K ports of compressed voice/fax over IP (including hardware, software and patent licenses) will be from $40 - $60 per port depending on interface choice. Future releases of the product will support TI's eXpressDSP(TM) real-time software technology.
