The Angora wildfire charred 3,100 acres and burned more than 220 homes in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Blue Sky Cleaners arrived in Lake Tahoe on June 30 to assist insurance policyholders in fire restoration.

"We literally had people flagging us down on the streets for help," said Frank Shaghafi, owner of Blue Sky Cleaners, the Bay Area's only certified environmentally friendly dry cleaner. Shaghafi drove one of several Blue Sky Cleaners vans from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe, where the company's vehicles soon made up a large fleet of vans. "Many people had no clean clothes to wear, and it was our job to return clean garments to them as quickly as possible."

About CO2-based dry cleaning dry cleaning, process of cleaning fabrics without water. Special solvents and soaps are used so as not to harm fabrics and dyes that will not withstand the effects of ordinary soap and water. Dry cleaning began in France about the middle of the 19th cent.

Blue Sky's CO2 method uses natural carbon dioxide, the same stuff that makes the bubbles in your soda, while other cleaners use harsh chemicals. Blue Sky's CO2 technology gets clothes cleaner than any other dry-cleaning method. With liquid CO2 cleaning, there is no fading, shrinking, pilling or stain setting - and there's never a "dry-cleaning odor" left on your clothes. Garments cleaned with CO2 feel softer and look newer, because no harsh chemicals are used. Garments cleaned with CO2 have been shown to last 20 to 40 percent longer than when cleaned at a traditional dry cleaner.
