Blue Ridge Paper Products Inc. Confirms Preliminary Dicusssions with The Rank Group Regarding a Potential Transaction.


CANTON, N.C. -- Blue Ridge Blue Ridge, eastern range of the Appalachian Mts., extending south from S Pa. to N Ga.; highest mountains in the E United States. Mt. (Bloomberg: bluerd) ("Blue Ridge"), a vertically integrated manufacturer of specialty paperboard packaging products and a broad range of specialty and commodity grades of paperboard and paper products, announced today that it is engaged in preliminary discussions with The Rank Group pursuant to a non-binding letter of intent regarding a potential transaction involving the sale of Blue Ridge. The Rank Group is the owner of the Carter Holt Harvey Carter Holt Harvey is an Australasian forest products company, with significant interests in wood products, pulp, paper and packaging. The company employs approximately 10,500 people across Australasia.  Ltd. group of companies, headquartered in New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. , and Evergreen Packaging Inc. (formerly the Beverage Packaging Division of International Paper).
