Blue Jackets re-sign LW Fredrik Modin

The Columbus Blue Jackets re-signed left wing Fredrik Modin to a multi-year contract Monday. The 32-year-old is third on the team in goals with 15 in 60 games this season. He also has 15 assists. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We are very excited to get a deal done with Freddy," club president and general manager Doug MacLean said. "He has been a very solid player for us, a leader, and has good character."

Modin, 10-year-veteran, came to the Blue Jackets in an offseason trade from Tampa Bay, where he had 31 goals and 23 assists last season.

The Blue Jackets also placed forward Dan Fritsche on injured reserve. He injured his wrist Feb. 25 against Nashville. Fritsche has 12 goals and 15 assists in 59 appearances. No timetable was set for his return.

Columbus recalled Geoff Platt from its affiliate in Syracuse, N.Y., to fill the roster spot. He was leading Syracuse with 27 goals. Platt has been scoreless in seven games with the Blue Jackets this season.
