Blue Hen marks its first anniversary.

The Newark, DE-based Blue Hen Beer Co. celebrated the company's flagship product--Blue Hen beer--last week.

Company founder and president Jeff Johnson explained that within the first year of existence, Blue Hen built a local identity and following while also expanding distribution to include parts of northern Maryland and eastern Pennsylvania. Negotiations are also under way to secure the export of Blue Hen beer to Japan and Europe, Johnson said.

"We are very encouraged by the positive response we've gotten from our wholesalers, retailers and consumers," Johnson commented. "Blue Hen beer is a product for individuals who appreciate a more sophisticated style of beer and it is quickly earning a reputation as a world-class brew. Our quality reputation is the driving force behind the rapid expansion of distribution for Blue Hen beer outside of Delaware."

The first anniversary will be celebrated throughout the spring with a series of special gatherings and promotions at various Delaware locations, Johnson said.
