Blue Fish Clothing to open retail store in New York City.


FRENCHTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 26, 1996--Jennifer Paige Barclay, founder and chairperson of Blue Fish Clothing Inc. announced today that a lease has been signed for a new Blue Fish retail store in Soho, New York City New York City: see New York, city.

City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
 at 150 Greene Street which the company plans to open in February 1997.

Blue Fish will lease 6,500 square feet in a historic, cast iron landmark building that was formerly occupied by the Metro Pictures Metro Pictures Corporation was an American motion picture production company founded in late 1915 by Richard A. Rowland (1880-1947) and Louis B. Mayer (1885-1957). The company started out distributing films made by Solax Studios but Mayer left soon after operations began to form  Gallery.

"We are working on the store's design and hope to open by mid-February," said Barclay. "Blue Fish combines many natural, creative elements to form a unique environment which is energetically alive and inspiring. Soho is the perfect location for Blue Fish -- offering diversity that mirrors who our customers are -- all ages, all sizes, trans-cultural, generational -- Blue Fish is a lifestyle concept."

Blue Fish is known for its artisan-produced , one-of-a-kind hand block-printed clothing, made in the USA. Each piece of Blue Fish clothing is printed by hand with hand-carved blocks by one of 42 artists in the company's Frenchtown, N.J. studio, where the clothing is designed and produced. The signature block of each artist can be found inside the hem of the garments they have created.
