Blue Cross of California Wins BlueWorks Recognition for Creative Solutions to Asthma Management; Award Based on Review by Harvard Medical School's Department of Health Care Policy.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) is a American federation of 39 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield healthcare
 (BCBSA BCBSA Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association ) announced today that Blue Cross of California (Blue Cross) has won recognition for its innovative asthma management program for Medicaid populations designed to improve access to affordable, quality healthcare. In a unique collaboration between BCBSA and the Harvard Medical School's Department of Health Care Policy, the BlueWorks initiative spotlights programs from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Blue Shield A US not-for-profit health care insurer that is a reimbursement intermediary for physicians. Cf Blue Cross.  companies throughout the country that are effective in keeping quality healthcare affordable.

Asthma disproportionately affects the poor and disadvantaged in our communities. Blue Cross partnered with local organizations to leverage their resources in reaching underserved Medicaid populations in order to educate and encourage members to visit their doctor, discuss their medication and develop an action plan for their treatment. Blue Cross found that a standard asthma program could not meet the needs of all members in a culturally and linguistically diverse population.

As part of the program Blue Cross MediCal members (California Medicaid program) were also eligible for a consultation with a pharmacist pharmacist /phar·ma·cist/ (fahr´mah-sist) one who is licensed to prepare and sell or dispense drugs and compounds, and to make up prescriptions.
