This $2,500 invest enabled Healthy Malden to raise an additional $1.2 million from foundations, corporations and individual donors. Catalyst Fund grant requests are reviewed by a team of BCBSMA associates who make their recommendations to the Foundation's board of directors for final approval. Since its inception in 2001, the BCBSMA Foundation (www.bcbsmafoundation.org) has awarded grants of $7.6 million to spark innovation and strengthen services for uninsured and low-income individuals and families in Massachusetts. The Foundation is governed by its own 17-member Board of Directors, and operates separately from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. BCBSMA committed an initial endowment of $55 million, making the Foundation one of the largest health philanthropies in Massachusetts. |
