Blue Circle Cements Multi-Million Dollar Deal.

Blue Circle Cement and Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.P. have agreed to begin construction of a world class import and distribution terminal in Charleston. S.C., to further strengthen Blue Circle's extensive network of plants and terminals to better supply the strong Southeastern construction market.

The new deep water terminal, located at the current Shipyard River Coal Terminal, will be one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world. When complete, the new terminal will be capable of accommodating 60,000 ton ships, storing in excess of 90,000 tons of cement, giving it the annual capacity to supply an additional 1.5 million tons of cement to the market. The facility should be completed in 2000.

The decision to undertake such an endeavor is part of Blue Circle Cement's objective to remain the leading cement supplier in the Southeast and increase its flexibility to meet increased market demand. Blue Circle Cement has implemented several measures in order to meet its customer's needs, including the 50 per cent increase in the capacity of the Blue Circle Cement Harleyville plant completed in 1998. The Shipyard River Coal Terminal project is part of Blue Circle's corporate-wide expansion intended to better serve Blue Circle customers and to support the region's construction industry.
