Blue Angel Technologies Announces ASF Compliance; MetaStar Product Suite is Compliant with the Federal Government's Advanced Search Facility.

VALLEY FORGE Valley Forge, on the Schuylkill River, SE Pa., NW of Philadelphia. There, during the American Revolution, the main camp of the Continental Army was established (Dec., 1777–June, 1778) under the command of Gen. George Washington. , Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1998-- Blue Angel Technologies announced today that it is the first software vendor to offer a commercial off the shelf (COTS) product that is ASF See Windows Media formats.

ASF is a scaleable, distributed search and retrieval capability that permits intelligent agents to query large collections of mixed-mode data (e.g., text, geospatial metadata Geospatial metadata (also geographic metadata, or simply metadata when used in a geographic context) is a type of metadata that is applicable to objects that have an explicit or implicit geographic extent, in other words, are associated with some position on the , bibliographic references, museum artifacts artifacts

Blue Angel's MetaStar suite contains numerous standards-based software components that are used to facilitate each phase of information-based processes Processes that collect, analyze, and disseminate information using any medium or form. These processes may be stand-alone processes or sub-processes that, taken together, comprise a larger system or systems of processes. See also information system.  ( i.e., capture, organize, access, discover and use). "What's quite exceptional about MetaStar software", said Blue Angel's president Jim Restivo, "is that it requires no programming. Blue Angel has been able to automate what were difficult and technically challenging aspects of the information delivery process. As a result, customers are now able to install and implement such applications quickly and inexpensively."

MetaStar products work on a variety of platforms and operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. In practice, many of these groupings may overlap. . "This is particularly important", continued Restivo, "to government agencies which typically have large numbers of widely dispersed hardware configurations. MetaStar products allow our customers to leverage their existing investment in both hardware and software. It also provides them with an ability to move to new platforms should they desire to do so in the future."

MetaStar also provides the end-user with unequaled flexibility. MetaStar was designed to allow end-users to easily make changes to accommodate their unique data needs. For example, MetaStar Gateway comes with template pages that allow customers to design whatever look and feel are desired. While the templates are very easy to use for less sophisticated customers, they provide a full array of advanced features that allow power users to implement advanced capabilities such as Java script and Active Server Pages (World-Wide Web, programming) Active Server Pages - (ASP) A scripting environment for Microsoft Internet Information Server in which you can combine HTML, scripts and reusable ActiveX server components to create dynamic web pages.

installation instructions. Customers can be assured of a steady stream of product updates as MetaStar products are enhanced to accommodate new technology and product functionality.

Since MetaStar products are integrated with a number of well-known third party full text search engines, customers can be assured of ASF compliance with any of Blue Angel's technology partners. Such partnerships extend the scope and usefulness of ASF and insure that customers have a broad choice of vendor options from whom to choose.

"MetaStar and ASF offer exciting possibilities not only for government agencies, but more importantly, for taxpayers. ASF and MetaStar provide the framework that will make it easier for taxpayers to access and use a wealth of information that previously was not available or was difficult to find. Further, they will do it in a way that saves the taxpayer money. You can't beat that combination", said Restivo.

Availability

The ASF compliant MetaStar line is available immediately from Blue Angel Technologies.
