SUPERMARKET supervisor Mary Whitner was told to quit or be sacked after giving a customer a bunch of dying flowers.

Widower Mary was due to retire on her 60th birthday tomorrow after 23 years at the Co-op in Burgess Hill Coordinates:

Customers at the store have signed a petition calling for her to be reinstated . But a Co - op spokesman said: "We have strict policies."
