The system supports 16 channels per optical wavelength, and those channels can support a mix of video, audio, data and telephony signals. The flexible, plug-in architecture of the DV6000 system supports diverse network configurations and multiple formats, all of which can be changed with the insertion or removal of a card.

The ADC Telecommunications DV6000 system is being used by Bloomberg to transmit multiple D1 video feeds over a redundant optical infrastructure -- supplied by the UK arm of telecommunications carrier WorldCom -- from its central production facility via remote studios for additional foreign language content, before being distributed through satellite uplink to Europe's financial news communities.

Operating 24 hours a day, Bloomberg Television Bloomberg Television are cable television networks around the world that broadcast business and financial news 24 hours a day. The network was widely known for their data screen format, in which news tickers and business data boxes used more of the television screen than the  delivers breaking news, instant analysis of the global financial markets, the latest sports results, weather forecasts, entertainment and lifestyles in 30-minute segments, via cable and satellite.

In February 1997, Bloomberg began to trial the DV6000 system with WorldCom, which provides Bloomberg with network access. WorldCom in turn, is deploying 20 DV6000 systems as part of an exercise to upgrade the technology and service it offers to broadcasters in the UK.
