Bloodstock briefing: 1,000 Guineas winners have mixed record as broodmares.Byline: janet hickman THERE have been some genuinely distinguished winners of the 1,000 Guineas, and some less memorable ones, over the past two decades, and their stud careers follow a similar pattern. In fact, surprisingly few have made an impact at stud, but it is early days for some. Here is a progress report on the most recent winners. 1980 Quick As Lightning Died without producing a foal foal a junior horse from birth to one year. May be filly foal, colt foal. foal ataxia see enzootic equine incoordination. . 1981 Fairy Footsteps Despite her superb pedigree, Fairy Footsteps failed to produce anything near her own class. However, she is grand-dam of Desert Prince and last year's Group 3 winner Ontario, both out of her first foal, Flying Fairy. Her last foal was the 1995 Affirmed colt Brigade Charge, a dual-purpose winner. 1982 On The House From the first crop of Be My Guest, On the House produced 11 foals, eight of them winners, including Art Of War in Listed company, and she is grand-dam of Italian Listed winner Balkenhol, out of the maiden Miss Penton (foaled in 1995). On The House died after foaling a Lion Cavern colt in 1998. 1983 Ma Biche Maktoum Al Maktoum sent Ma Biche to the then highly rated Shareef Dancer for her first two seasons and then to Kentucky's best. Lots of foals followed, but only useful miler Kassbaan (by Alydar) was of any note. Ma Biche was sold for $50,000 at the 1996 Keeneland November Sale. She produced colts by King Of Kings in 2000 and 2002, taking her foal tally to 14, but her 2003 produce died. She is now in foal being with young; pregnant; - said of a mare or she ass. Pebbles was retired after her 2002 foal died and remains in Japan. 1985 Oh So Sharp Oh So Sharp left quite a legacy for Darley. She is dam of the Green Desert three-year-old filly Itnab, a yearling filly by Unfuwain and is due to Mujahid, after which she visits Elnadim. 1987 Miesque Made a fantastic start at stud, producing Kingmambo, East Of The Moon and Miesque's Son between 1990 and 1992. Since then her progeny have achieved far less on the track, although her 1998 Mr Prospector filly Inventing Paradise was Listed-placed in France. In the sale ring, however, she has been a big earner at Keeneland for Flaxman Holdings thanks to the Mr Prospector fillies Monevassia ($1.75m in 1998) and Myhrr ($4.6m in 2000). She is dam of the AP Indy three-year-old colt Mingun, second to Alberto Giacometti in a Curragh This article is about the plain in County Kildare. Salsabil died of pancreatic cancer pancreatic cancer Malignant tumour of the pancreas. She has been represented by three British stakes winners - Alshadiyah, Bint Shadayid and Imtiyaz - and Shadwell retains several of her daughters. Looking to enhance her record are her 2000 Storm Cat colt Murashah and her 2001 AP Indy colt Muhaymin. 1992 Hatoof The best Kentucky stallions haven't enabled Hatoof to produce anything in her own class and unfortunately she has no two-year-old, yearling or foal. She has the Sadler's Wells three-year-old filly Alfunun, a Darshaan yearling filly and a King's Best colt foal for Shadwell, and is in foal to Sakhee. 1996 Bosra Sham Started her broodmare career in style as dam of a million-guinea yearling, though Shami has not justified the price. She has since produced the Sadler's Wells three-year-old colt Bosra's Valentine, the AP Indy two-year-old colt Rosberg - who was sold at Keeneland last September for $1.5m - and a Singspiel colt foal.
