Bloodstock Desk: Small but select team at Downclose.


THERE is a small but successful band of broodmares at Nancy Ralph's Downclose Stud in Somerset.

Her team of eight includes Fairy Flight, the dam of Group 2 Challenge Stakes The Challenge Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres) at Newmarket's Rowley Mile course in October.  winner Just James (by Spectrum); Noble Peregrine, the dam of smart milers Wannabe Around (Primo Dominie) and Nobelist (Bering); P ride Of My Heart, who was responsible for last year's Group 2 Temple Stakes The Temple Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 5 furlongs and 6 yards (1,011 metres) at Sandown Park Racecourse in late May.  winner Night Prospector (Night Shift); and Tahara, the dam of Richard Hannon's promising juvenile Godfrey Street.

Others on the farm, managed by Michael Falkiner, include 19-year-old Down The Valley, who is the dam of two good fillies, namely Group 2 Rockfel Stakes winner Distant Valley and Listed scorer Mayaro Bay.
