Bloodstock Desk: National Stud picks Dawson as commerce manager.


Byline: Howard Wright Howard Gregory Wright (born December 20 1967, in San Diego, California) is an American professional basketball player. He is a 6'8" (203 cm) 220 lb (100 kg) forward and played collegiately at Stanford University from 1978–82.

 board has focused a few miles north of its Newmarket base, and into the racecourse world, to recruit a commercial general manager, by tempting Huntingdon managing director Tina Dawson into the job, writes Howard Wright.

The appointment, which Dawson will take up some time around the beginning of August, is the latest step the stud has taken to drive its commercial aspirations aspirations nplaspiraciones fpl (= ambition); ambición f

Chairman Andrew Parrish admitted: OIt has taken a considerable time to find the right person,O but he added, OIOm confident we have selected the most appropriate candidate, who brings with her a high degree of expertise and a wealth of experience of the thoroughbred industry.O

Though a member of the Shropshire-based Brisbourne farming and training family, Dawson has not been in racing all her working life.

She was corporate manager of open-to-the-public Elton Hall in Cambridgeshire before she joined Weatherbys, and then arrived at Huntingdon as general manager in the summer of 2002.

She said: OIOm sure my experience in other fields will help at the National Stud, where IOll be managing all the commercial and market development activities.

OThe stud is a tremendous resource for the industry, but there is plenty of scope for driving interest, enhancing awareness and raising its profile.

Dawson added: OI was not looking to leave Huntingdon. In fact, I believe the job of taking the racecourse forward is not finished, and I will really miss the place.

OBut the National Stud opportunity came up, rather unexpectedly, and having decided it provided a crossroads in my life, I decided to take the detour.O
