THE Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame was established in 1978 located at the Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario to honor those who have made a significant contribution to the sport of harness and thoroughbred horse racing in Canada.  inducted eight new members in Toronto on Thursday, including three thoroughbreds, three standardbreds and two people.

Canadian Horse of the Year The Canadian Horse of the Year is a thoroughbred horse racing honor given annually since 1951 by the Jockey Club of Canada. It is the most prestigious honor in Canadian thoroughbred horse racing.  Norcliffe, a son of Buckpasser born in 1973, heads the thoroughbred trio. A top-class juvenile, he went on to win the QueenOs Plate at three, the same year he received his Horse of the Year title, and at four won the Canadian Maturity, one of the most valuable races in the country. He sired 33 stakes winners during a short stud career.

Cool Reception, bred by EP Taylor at Windfields Stud, was champion two-year-old colt in Canada in 1966 after winning seven races in a row.

The following season he finished second in the Belmont Stakes Belmont Stakes

Oldest of the three U.S. horse races that constitute the Triple Crown. The Belmont originated in 1867 and is named after August Belmont (see Belmont family). The stakes is held in early June at Belmont Park, near Garden City, Long Island; the course is 1.5 mi (2,400 m).
, despite breaking a foreleg 200 yards from the finish. He was put down after the race.

Irish-bred AnitaOs Son won a record 16 stakes races on the Ontario Jockey Club circuit, and was placed in a further nine stakes races, to become CanadaOs leading handicap horse in 1960 and 1961. He joins his trainer Art Wrner in the Hall of Fame.

David Wilmot David Wilmot (January 20, 1814 – March 16, 1868) was a U.S. political figure. He was a sponsor and eponym of the Wilmot Proviso which aimed to ban slavery in land gained from Mexico in the Mexican-American War of 1846–48.  was recognised in the BuilderOs category for his contribution to thoroughbred breeding.

The 55-year-old is chairman of Woodbine Entertainment and owns Kinghaven Farms, one of CanadaOs premier breeding and racing stables.

Wilmot also came to the aid of the financially troubled Ontario Jockey Club in the 1990s, and was the first Canadian to be president of Harness Tracks of America.

The other person honoured was Stew Firlotte. The 64-year-old gained his reputation in harness racing, where he worked initially as a groom before going on to break and develop champion filly Town Pro, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year.
