Vampire movie aficionados could look for a taste of the real thing, sort of, at the International Press Academy's Vampire Film Series and Festival.

"We wanted to do a niche because there are so many film festivals around the world now," said Asif Ahmed, IPA's vice president of new media and the festival's director. "We wanted Red Cross there because L.A. has one of the lowest blood donor bases among U.S. cities. And with Halloween coming up it seemed a good fit."

Ahmed and several local entertainment critics selected seven amateur vampire flicks, submitted from across the country, based on the originality of their takes on the familiar vampire theme.
