Journalist Carr used archival material and other primary material in his recount of the 1609 expulsion of the Morisco, baptized Muslims, from Spain. Carr puts this event in the context of many other cases in which people were driven from their homes and often murdered because of their ethnicity or religion. He also puts it in historical context: the long held feeling of the Spanish that they were not considered equal to other European countries, paranoia resulting from the Ottoman incursions and the determination to identify themselves as a purely Catholic country. This is intended for a general audience and told in an easy narrative style.
