Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX:BDR) a manufacturer of electronics and systems equipment for the franchised and private cable television industries, will exhibit at the Western Cable Show, November 27 - 29 in Anaheim, CA with its latest product offerings- the QQQT Transcoder with its QCentral Remote Control Software, and the new Agile Micro Modulator.

The QPSK to QAM Transcoder (the 6289 QQQT) for DigiCipher(R) II compatibility is an essential element of a system configuration that allows a cable TV operator to offer a state-of-the art digital television package that is both bandwidth efficient and extremely economical, permitting even small systems to offer digital video services. The QQQT enables operators to offer a digital tier of more than 200 channels when used in conjunction with Motorola's QAM DSR-470 & DSR-471 set-top boxes in the home. New to the full QQQT product line is QCentral(TM), a custom software application that allows monitoring and controlling of QQQT units in a headend. The software can be used in a direct connection mode locally at the headend or in a remote connection mode via an external serial modem. Using the software in the remote connection mode enables the operator to manage a headend from a remote location, allowing the redirection of a signal from a problem transcoder to a spare, thereby eliminating the need for a truck roll or lengthy outage.

The newest addition to the QQQT family will be on display as well-- the QQQT with Option 1. The new QQQT-01, # 6289A enhances the existing QQQT by adding two distinct features: (1) extended agile QAM output range from 54--750 MHz (CATV Channel 2--117 including FM band channels 95--99), and (2) An external IF loop. The extended output range allows for tuning the output of the unit into lower channels than the standard QQQT, giving the operator flexibility in bandwidth constricted systems. The external IF loop allows interfacing with video all-call systems for purposes such as Emergency Alert Systems (EAS).

Blonder Tongue will also display their new Agile Micro Modulator (AMCM-806). The AMCM-806 provides full agility in the compact Blonder Tongue Micro Modulator size. It is a professional quality agile audio/video modulator with an output frequency range of 54--806 MHz that accepts inputs from any standard audio/video source. The unit supports all off air and CATV channels including HRC & IRC assignments from 54--806 MHz.

The AMCM-806 features an advanced design allowing front panel access to all level controls and indicators. Frequency plan selection, channel tuning, and over-modulation controls are accommodated via front panel switches. All channel frequencies with appropriate FCC offsets are pre-programmed and tuned electronically via microprocessor. The unit firmware has several special features including the ability to alert an operator of a change in the front panel switch settings from the entered configuration. This feature is valuable not only during installation, but also when a switch has been inadvertently changed once in operation. The unit also meets FCC Docket 21006 Aeronautical Frequency Response Offset Requirements.
