) announced today the release of their new LightHouse Series of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH (Fiber To The Home) See FTTP. ) products. The LightHouse Series is a standard's based broadband delivery system optimized for multiple dwelling units, gated communities and small municipalities.

The LightHouse Series uses a one-to-one design feature that provides significantly lower initial capital cost for the service provider. This is particularly advantageous during the initial phases of new construction where the number of potential subscribers is small. Other FTTH systems use a "shared" media converter architecture. These other systems were designed for very large networks, but the costs do not scale down for MDU's and small municipalities.

The LightHouse system provides transport of 10/100 Base T Ethernet and 54-870 MHz CATV (Community Antenna TV) The original name for cable TV. It used a single antenna at the highest location in the community in order to deliver a quality signal to homes in areas with hilly terrain or other interference.  bandwidth to each premise through one single mode fiber. It employs a passive-optical-network architecture (PON (Passive Optical Network) An optical point-to-multipoint access network. There are no optical repeaters or other active devices in a PON, hence the name "passive. ) technology providing operators serviceability ease because there is no active equipment required between the headend and the premise. Advanced services such as VoIP, IP video, VOD See video-on-demand.

and digital cable are all supported. The LightHouse Series is comprised of five key components: 1. the FIBT-10-1550 CATV optical transmitter, 2. BTEA BTEA Back to Education Allowance (Ireland)

Series amplifier, 3. FOC Series couplers, 4. BTEN-231W headend media converters and 5. BTEN-431W premise media converters.
