Blonde v brunette Who spends more time at the mirror? Blondes spend 72 minutes primping and preening every day, according to a new study - much more than their brunette rivals. Here we follow two women's daily beauty routines to find out how long it really takes.

Friday

5am I shower, wash and condition my hair. I use a bodyscrub which leaves me smelling lovely. I then use a body lotion Noun 1. body lotion - lotion applied to the body after bathing
lotion - any of various cosmetic preparations that are applied to the skin
 (35 minutes).

I use moisturiser on my face, and black mascara Mascara (măs`kərə, mäs`kärä), town (1998 pop. 80,797), NW Algeria. The town is also known as Mouaskar. It is an administrative center, a garrison town, and a marketplace, noted for its white wine and for its trade in  because I've got a quiet day (five mins).

6pm I'm going out for dinner so have a five-minute shower, pin my hair back and use the same products as earlier, plus eye shadow and perfume (50 mins).

Total: 90 mins

Saturday

6am Spending the day with my daughter, Molly, 13, and going out for dinner tonight. Shower, wash and condition my hair and moisturise (35 mins).

Pluck my eyebrows (five mins), paint my toenails (five mins), blow-dry my hair using a shine spray (20 mins), and apply usual make-up (10 mins).

Total: 75 mins

Sunday

8am Getting hair done and going to parents' house later for dinner. Shower, using a body scrub and body lotion (10 mins) and quickly apply usual makeup (10 mins)

Total: 140 mins, including two-hour trip to hairdresser's

Monday

5.30am Busy day and want to look my best. Shower and moisturise (10 mins). Wash and condition my hair (30 mins) and apply make-up (20 mins).

7pm Going out for dinner with my friend. Shower and moisturise (10 mins), use Immac on arms and legs (15 mins), reapply Re`ap`ply´   

v. t. & i. 1. To apply again.

Tuesday

5am Important day at work. Shower and moisturise (10 mins), blow-dry my hair (30 mins) and do make-up (30 mins).

6pm Going out for dinner with my friend. Same as this morning but just touch up my make-up (10 mins).

Total: 80 mins

Wednesday

5am Shower and moisturise (10 mins). Blow-dry my hair (30 mins) and do my make-up (10 mins).

8pm Long soak in the bath (one hour). Polish my toenails (10 mins).

Total: 120 mins

Thursday

5am Shower and moisturise (10 mins), start my new teeth regime after going to the dentist yesterday (10 mins). Blow-dry my hair (15 mins), apply make-up (20 mins) and pluck my eyebrows (five mins).

6.30pm Going out for dinner. Shower and moisturise again (10 mins), reapply make-up (15 mins) and blow-dry my hair (25 mins).

Total: 110 mins

Sharon says: "I spend quite a lot of time getting ready but I don't think I could speed the process up. I enjoy the routine. I seem to use it as 'think time'.

"I don't agree with the survey. It wouldn't matter what colour my hair was, I'm sure I'd still take the same amount of time.

"It's important to feel good about yourself."

7.30am I shower, shampoo shampoo

Then I dry my hair (10 mins) before straightening it (five mins). I spray myself with perfume and use lip-gloss and eyeliner before leaving the house at 8.30am.

5.30pm Going out for drinks with a colleague so I brush my hair and retouch my lip-gloss and eyeliner (five mins).

Total: 50 mins

Saturday

11.30am Jump in the shower (10 mins). I use the same make-up products as yesterday, dry and straighten my hair and I'm out of the door by 12.30pm (50 mins).

Staying in tonight. Take off my make-up and do my nails using a protein conditioning treatment (30 mins).

Total: 90 mins

Sunday

10.30am Shower (20 mins), followed by my usual make-up routine (15 mins). Then I dry my hair and tie it back (10 mins).

Total: 45 mins

Monday

9am Have the morning off work so get in shower later than usual (15 mins). Moisturise, wash and condition my hair. Then clean my teeth, put in my contacts, use moisturiser and do make-up (15 mins).

Dry and straighten my hair (10 mins) before heading to work.

5.30pm Going for a drink so retouch my lip-gloss (five mins).

Total: 45 mins

Tuesday

7am Shower (15 mins), put in contact lenses and do my usual morning routine (15 mins). 5.30pm Meeting friends for dinner so have a quick wash and retouch my make-up (20 mins).

Total: 50 mins

Wednesday

5.45am Shower, moisturise, wash and condition my hair (15 mins). Blow-dry hair (10 mins). Apply make-up, put in contacts (25 mins) and straighten my hair (five mins).

Going out so pop home after work to reapply make-up and straighten my hair (30 mins).

Total: 85 mins

Thursday

7am Shower using a rejuvenating shower gel shower gel shower ngel m douche  to wake me up, then wash and condition my hair (15 mins). Manage my usual morning make-up regime in 10 mins today. Straighten my hair and put on some perfume (15 mins).

5.30pm Going out after work but running late so only have to change my top and reapply lip-gloss (five mins).

Total: 45 mins
