AMMAN (Star)AuA 4-minute video about the old city of Amman won the first prize in a video blogging competition organized by AmmanNet and Washington-based IREX. Misam Saleh, whose video blog was chosen from among 20, said that she has always loved walking in the older parts of the Jordanian capital and when she had an opportunity to train and produce video blogs, filming the life of the city was natural for her. The video blogging contest came at the conclusion of a 6-month video blogging project funded by USAID. Jordanians of all walks of life were invited to take part in the project that included training on video blogging, getting a web page to post their blogs and finally competing for the best blog of the year. The winner has been invited to attend the Blogging picninc held annually in Amsterdam Mr Daoud Kuttab of AmmanNet said that the project was aimed at enhancing the role of citizen journalists. A winning entry was a video of a dirt road in the town of Russeifa that has been waiting to be paved for 10 years. One month after the video appeared on the web, the local authorities paved the road. Mrs Francesca Sawalha, chief-of-party at USAID-funded Jordan Media Strengthening Program, said, AoTodayAAEs news media is being enriched by content provided by citizens who are not necessarily trained as professional journalists but who feel that they want to make a positive change in their community.
