Blazes may prove a good thing.


Idaho's summer wildfires may prove to have been a good thing in the long run.

Since the fires burned at different temperatures, the forest remnants they left vary in age, from old growth to young trees. The resulting variety of trees will help protect the forest from disease and insects, said Kathleen Gaier-Hayes, a fire ecologist.
