Blanchard, Motch, REFORM join forces in joint venture.

Cone Blanchard Corp, Windsor, VT; Motch Corp, Cleveland, OH; and REFORM Maschinenfabrik Adolf Rabenseifner, Fulda, Germany, recently entered a joint venture agreement.

Under the terms of the agreement, REFORM grants Cone Blanchard and Motch rights to market, sell, build and/or assemble its high production traveling head surface grinders A surface grinder is a machine tool used to provide precision ground surfaces, either to a critical size or for the surface finish.

Joint venture talks began in March 1999, says J Hunter Banbury, president, Cone Blanchard Corp and Motch Corp. A verbal agreement was reached within three or four months, and written agreements followed shortly thereafter.

Blanchard and Motch were interested in REFORM's reciprocating grinder, which--unlike similar grinders that move the workpiece Noun 1. workpiece - work consisting of a piece of metal being machined

The machine, which complements Blanchard's rotary surface grinder, will be made accessible to Blanchard customers in the US. Motch was also interested in REFORM's multi-spindle vertical grinding technology to complement the Springfield Grinder line. The technology is ideal for aircraft rebuilding and the aerospace industry.

"In essence, we're using some of their technology and combining it with our expertise," says Mr Banbury.

The joint venture will allow the three companies to expand their respective markets, says Mr Banbury. Products in the Americas will be sold as Blanchard and Springfield grinders. REFORM will sell Blanchard and Motch products with the REFORM name in Europe.

Cone Blanchard and Motch are both part of the Park Corp, Cleveland, OH, which purchased the two entities in 1997. Blanchard manufactures a complete line of rotary surface grinders. Motch designs, engineers, builds, and services vertical turning machines, vertical grinders, self-loading vertical and horizontal turning centers, and custom engineered systems.
