ENCINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2004

Filmmaker Blake Edwards will receive the Video Software Dealers Association's Lifetime Achievement Award at VSDA's Home Entertainment 2004. Mr. Edwards will be presented with the award during the Opening Business Session and Awards Ceremonies of the annual industry event on July 14, 2004 at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. . The announcement was made today by Bo Andersen, President of VSDA.

"We are extraordinarily honored to present our Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Edwards," said VSDA president Bo Andersen. "His incredible film career has made an enormous contribution to the home video industry. Generations of movie lovers everywhere have loved and laughed and continue to enjoy his films -- whether it's watching their favorite Pink Panther films again and again or younger audiences now discovering his genius for the first time."

Mr. Edwards' distinguished career as writer, director, and producer has brought him worldwide acclaim for such classic films as "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "10," "S.O. B.," "Victor/Victoria," "The Party," "The Great Race," "Blind Date," and "The Pink Panther" films, the most successful comedy film series ever made.

Other Edwards classics include such memorable dramatic films as the 1962 "Experiment in Terror" and the harrowing "The Days of Wine and Roses."

During his career of more than five decades, the 49 films he has directed and often written and produced have grossed more than 1.5 billion dollars at the box office.

Blake's career not only encompasses film, but radio, television, and Broadway. Between 1947-1955 he wrote for several radio shows and created (and often wrote and directed) the popular series "Richard Diamond: Private Detective." By 1958 he moved into television where he created two innovative and popular television series: "Peter Gunn Peter Gunn was an American private eye television series which aired on the NBC and later ABC television networks from 1958 to 1961. The show's creator (and also writer and director on occasion) was Blake Edwards. A total of 114 thirty-minute episodes were produced. " and "Mr. Lucky." At the age of 70, Edwards extended his career to Broadway, where he wrote, directed, and produced the mega-hit "Victor/Victoria," starring his wife, Julie Andrews Dame Julie Elizabeth Andrews, DBE (born Julia Elizabeth Wells[1] on 1 October 1935[2]) is an award-winning English actress, singer, author and cultural icon. .

This year Edwards was recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences with its highest honor, an honorary Oscar. Other awards include the French Legion of Honor Legion of Honor: see decorations, civil and military. , the Italian David di Donatello Award, the Director's Guild Preston Sturges Preston Sturges (August 29, 1898 – August 6, 1959), originally Edmund Preston Biden, was a celebrated screenwriter and director born in Chicago.

Sturges took the screwball comedy format of the 1930s to another level, writing dialogue that, heard today, is often
 Award, and the Writers Guild Laurel Award.

Edwards joins a distinguished pantheon of previous VSDA Lifetime Achievement Award winners, including Robert Duvall, Bob Hope, Anthony Hope, Anthony, pseud. of Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins, 1863–1933, English novelist.
