Charles Rodway Clarke (born 21 September 1950) is a British Labour Party politician.

 wanted him to take over as PM.

He said Mr Blair had hoped to make him Foreign Secretary, in the process becoming the main challenger to Gordon Brown.

Mr Clarke told New Statesman Mr Blair revealed his plan the day after Mr Clarke was fired as Home Secretary over the foreign prisoners scandal in 2006.

He added: "If I could find a role in government I would be delighted to do it."
