In 1998, a group chaired by Mr. Griffiths developed a Bid Proposal designed to secure the right of Vancouver and Whistler to represent Canada as its national candidate for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The Bid Proposal team, headed by Mr. Griffiths, raised $1.2 million, and accomplished the first phase of the Domestic Bid in November of 1998. From 1997 to August 2000, Mr. Griffiths was the Chair of Public Consultation and Chief Negotiator for the Rapid Transit Project Office. Mr. Griffiths was responsible for meeting and negotiating with the municipalities and the vehicle manufacturers, as well as attending public forums designed to give voice to the concerns of public and environmental groups.
