Hurricane Floyd was the sixth named storm, fourth hurricane, and third major hurricane in the 1999 Atlantic hurricane season. . "We will be activating our Emergency Operations Center The Emergency Operations Center, or EOC, is a central command and control facility responsible for carrying out the principles of emergency preparedness and emergency management, or disaster management functions at a strategic level in an emergency situation, and ensuring ," says Emergency Director Donald Dufault. "We've alerted our personnel to be ready for their storm assignments, we've checked to make sure we have the proper supplies, topped up fuel tanks and the like. We've been following Hurricane Floyd carefully for the past week." Here are some ways you can prepare: --Safety. Safety comes first in every situation. For safety's sake, consider any downed wire electrically alive and dangerous. Stay away from it, and call the electric utility which provides service in your community. `Wire Down' calls are an electric company's highest priority. Fill several clean, sealable containers (such as one-gallon jugs or 2-liter soft drink bottles) with water for drinking. --Food.
