The Russell 2000 serves as a benchmark for small-cap stocks in the United States. is developed to provide a comprehensive and unbiased small-cap barometer of the U.S. equity market and is completely reconstituted on an annual basis. Russell produces a family of 21 U.S. equity indexes, which are used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. Investment mangers that oversee these funds purchase shares of member stocks according to that company's weighting in the particular index. The indexes are market cap-weighted and include only common stocks incorporated in the United States and its territories.
