Thank you for your article "How Black Romance--Novels, That Is--Came to Be" by Gwendolyn This article is about the name. For the singer, see Gwendolyn (artist).

Gwendolyn (pronounced GWEN-do-len) is a female first name. Its origins are Welsh, in which it means "white ring," derived from the Welsh elements gwen, meaning "white," "fair," or "blessed," and

Although practiced in ancient art, as shown by Pompeiian frescoes, and in the Middle Ages, genre was not recognized  and has proven to be an authority on African-American romance, and a tireless advocate of it as a legitimate sub-genre in the publishing business. As a veteran writer of romance, it was very satisfying to read an article on the origins of African-American romance in your magazine. Like any genre, romance continues to evolve. I hope to see Ms. Osborne reporting on changes in the industry and the strides being made by authors who work to bring positive, life-affirming stories to their readers.
