Black role models to inspire youngsters.A TOXTETH academy has launched a mentoring scheme to help black teenagers. The Mentor Me initiative is activity-based and aims to provide youngsters aged 11-17 with support and guidance. The Elimu Academy in Dove Street is calling on black role models aged 18 and above, and who can spare three hours each week, to help make it a longterm success. It hopes the project will reduce the offending behaviour of young black people across Merseyside and particularly in Liverpool 8. Mentor Me also aims to boost youngsters' self-worth, raise their aspirations and levels of achievement, and encourage them to work within rather than against the system to make the most of opportunities. The launch of the project earlier this autumn was backed by community leaders, social services social services Noun, pl welfare services provided by local authorities or a state agency for people with particular social needs social services npl → servicios mpl sociales , schools, and probation. Volunteers will not just be able to help youngsters develop, but will have access to free BTEC BTEC Business and Technology Education Council (UK) BTEC Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (Raleigh, NC) BTEC Business Transformation Executive Committee accredited accredited recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria. accredited herds cattle herds which have achieved a low level of reactors to, e.g. training at level 3, which could help them get a job on similar schemes within the justice system.
