The theme of the service, which honoured the 50th anniversary of Ghana's independence, was Ghanaian Linkages to Our Heritage: We Are One. The preacher was Rev. Jacob Jacob (jā`kəb), in the Bible, ancestor of the Hebrews, the younger of Isaac and Rebecca's twin sons; the older was Esau. In exchange for a bowl of lentil soup, Jacob obtained Esau's birthright and, with his mother's help, received the blessing  French, superintendent minister of Canada Mission Circuit of the Methodist Church of Ghana and minister-in-charge of Ghana Methodist Church of Toronto.
