Black box review.

A CHOPPER which crashed, killing a North East serviceman had no black box data recorder A data recorder is a piece of equipment which records data, and may also be called a data logger.

An inquest into the death of RAF Sgt Mark McLaren, 28, of Ashington, heard how he was crushed to death under the Puma helicopter after it crashed into another.

Accident investigator Philip Sleight told the inquest it would have been beneficial if the helicopter had been fitted with a black box.

Recording a narrative verdict coroner David Masters called for black boxes to be fitted in all aircraft.
