THE last HMS Coventry Seven ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Coventry, after the city of Coventry in the West Midlands.

The Ministry of Defence today confirmed that negotiations were progressing with the Romanian Ministry of National Defence over plans to sell both HMS Coventry and HMS London to the East European country.

The sixth HMS Coventry was decommissioned in January and the Evening Telegraph and Lord Mayor Dave Chater are campaigning to have a new ship named after the city.
