Black Leaders Urge Cable Industry to Support BET's New Public Affairs and Family Channel.


WASHINGTON--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--June 11, 1999--

African-American congressman and leaders of major civil rights organizations have sent letters to cable industry CEOs urging them to support BET Public Affairs Those public information, command information, and community relations activities directed toward both the external and internal publics with interest in the Department of Defense. Also called PA. See also command information; community relations; public information.  and Family Channel; the news, information and public affairs network planned by Black Entertainment Television.

The new network is poised to play a critical role in addressing the social, political, economic and lifestyle issues facing African-Americans across the nation.

Letters urging support were sent to many of the major MSOs by Representatives Charles Rangel, James Clyburn, Robert Rush, Eldolphus Towns, William Jefferson William Jefferson can refer to more than one person.

The network will build upon Black Entertainment Television's history of supplying coverage of public affairs issues affecting the African-American society. Exclusive interviews produced by BET have featured President Bill Clinton, O.J. Simpson, and Cuban President Fidel Castro. Other programming specials provide examinations of teen health and cultural issues effective in keeping Black America informed and enlightened.
