Black Isle Studios Announces Add-On for Worldwide Hit, ``Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast'' Expansion Hosts All New Adventures.


IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 1999--Black Isle Studios(TM), the role-playing game (RPG (Report Program Generator) One of the first program generators designed for business reports, introduced in 1964 by IBM. In 1970, RPG II added enhancements that made it a mainstay programming language for business applications on IBM's System/3x midrange computers. ) division of Interplay Entertainment Corp. (Nasdaq: IPLY) Tuesday announced the plan to release an add-on adventure pack for their worldwide hit, Baldur's Gate(TM).

Titled "Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast"(TM), the add-on expands the gameplay area by offering new quests and challenges to the main game. "Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast" will be available on CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.

Named Game of the Year by Imagine Games Network and Role-Playing Game of the Year by both GameSpot and Vault Network, "Baldur's Gate" has been the no. 1 selling PC game in many countries, including France, Germany and the United Kingdom since its release in late December 1998.

Developed by the Canada-based software company, BioWare Corp.(TM), "Baldur's Gate" is an epic role-playing game that utilizes TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) Refers to a program that remains in memory when the user exits it in order that it be immediately available at the press of a hotkey. (R)'s Advanced Dungeons & Dragons(R) Second Edition Rules set. It is available on five CDs which feature an enormous game world filled with nearly 10,000 unique pre-rendered scrolling screens and herald over 100 hours of gameplay.

"Tales of the Sword Coast" takes the player through additional areas filled with intriguing new characters, items and quests. A large island beckons just off the Sword Coast region of the Forgotten Realms(R), where "Baldur's Gate" is set. The player's band of adventurers must reach the island, explore it and attempt to unravel its secrets before yet another evil is unleashed upon the Sword Coast. Another adventure takes place in and around Durlag's Tower, the decrepit keep whose traps, illusions and denizens have thwarted adventurers for centuries. Tricks, traps and possibly treasure await those who survive.
