Black Duck Software Names Open Source "Rookies of the Year" for 2008.


Top new projects created in 2008 demonstrate continued open source innovation across all facets of application development

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Black Duck Software today selected the top ten "rookie" open source components from a list of over 17,000 projects that were created in 2008. With 2009 budgets contracting, more and more software development organizations are enhancing productivity by reusing open source components. Developers at these companies are aided by the significant number of new open source projects that emerged in 2008, and over 600 companies now rely on Black Duck solutions to streamline how open source code is incorporated into development projects.

Engineers at Black Duck actively spider the Internet, aggregating downloadable code into a giant repository, the Black Duck KnowledgeBase. This resource currently contains about 180,000 open source projects from nearly 4,000 unique web sites. Black Duck surveyed the KnowledgeBase to discover projects created last year, and researchers ranked them according to according to
