Black Duck Enhances exportIP Platform to Improve Management of Encryption Export Requirements.

Role-Based Interface, New Reporting and Expanded exportIP CryptoBase Among Features in Version 1.3

NEWPORT BEACH Newport Beach, residential and resort city (1990 pop. 66,643), Orange co., S Calif., on Newport Bay and the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1906. It is a popular seaside resort and yachting center. Manufactures include electrical and medical equipment, computers, boats, and adhesives. , Calif. -- Black Duck Software, the leading global provider of software compliance management solutions, today announced enhancements to exportIP[TM], the industry's first software compliance platform that helps ensure software products do not violate government restrictions regarding encryption The reversible transformation of data from the original (the plaintext) to a difficult-to-interpret format (the ciphertext) as a mechanism for protecting its confidentiality, integrity and sometimes its authenticity. Encryption uses an encryption algorithm and one or more encryption keys.  export. New features within exportIP 1.3 include a role-based interface to improve security and ease of use, an expanded CryptoBase[TM], additional reporting options and a Command Line Interface.

Among the enhancements, exportIP 1.3 gives end users specific control over the product based on their roles in the export encryption control process. exportIP now supports three sets of permission profiles geared to the roles of the engineering manager, the export specialist, and the system administrator. By tailoring information to each user's role, this enhancement makes the product easier to use, and it increases the overall security of the solution, as those users receive an appropriate level of control over the process. The export specialist has more approval power than the engineering manager, for example.

BlackDuck unveiled exportIP 1.3 at the Export Control Forum, hosted by the Bureau of Industry Security, the part of the U.S. Commerce Department that explains and enforces encryption rules. Export Control Forum is being held March 19, 2007 in Newport Beach, Calif.

exportIP identifies encryption algorithms A formula used to turn ordinary data, or "plaintext," into a secret code known as "ciphertext." Each algorithm uses a string of bits known as a "key" to perform the calculations. The larger the key (the more bits), the greater the number of potential patterns can be created, thus making  within software code and ensures that companies comply with export restrictions Export restrictions (Restriction on exportation) are restrictions to the quantity of goods exported to a specific country or countries by the government.

This is mainly:
applicable to those algorithms. exportIP helps software developers, engineering managers, legal counsel, and export encryption policy developers within companies with their respective compliance issues, avoiding delays and allowing maximum productivity benefits from today's software development techniques.

Other exportIP 1.3 enhancements

The exportIP CryptoBase, which the platform compares to developed code to ensure that encryption algorithms within the code are in compliance with government regulations, is enhanced in the new version. The CryptoBase now contains thousands of libraries and over 500 public and private encryption algorithms.

exportIP 1.3 also includes additional reporting options to meet a wider range of user requirements and to allow data to be saved in various standard file formats. Finally, the product now includes support for a Command Line Interface (CLI (1) (Call Level Interface) A database programming interface from the SQL Access Group (SAG), an SQL membership organization. SAG's CLI is an attempt to standardize the SQL language for database access. ), which customers rely on for greater flexibility in integrating the platform into their developer environments.
