Black Country News: ID fraud man told he must leave UK; DUDLEY: Judge expresses doubts about 'dad aged 29 with son of 17'.

A FORMER international athlete who settled in Dudley is facing deportation back to his native India for lying to a court about his identity. Ramandeep Singh Ramandeep Singh Grewal (born August 8, 1971 in Chandigarh) is a former field hockey midfielder from India, who made his international debut for the Men's National Team in 1995.  Mann was told he would be kicked out of Britain after serving an 18-month jail sentence jail sentence jail npeine f de prison  for perverting the course of justice In English or Irish law, perversion of the course of justice is a criminal offence in which someone acts in a manner that in some way prevents justice being served on either themselves or on a third party. Wolverhampton Crown Court was told that father-of-one Mann, 29, of no fixed address, fled India in fear of his life when his parents were shot in "strange circumstances", allegedly by police.

He was previously jailed by Warwick Crown Court in October 2005 under the name of Ramman Mann for possessing a Spanish passport, obtaining an airline ticket by deception and entering the United Kingdom without leave.

Mann settled in Dudley after his release.

But he was arrested again when West Midlands Police West Midlands Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing the metropolitan county of West Midlands in England.

It is the second largest in the United Kingdom after London's Metropolitan Police [1]. It covers an area with nearly 2.
 officers searched his home after he was picked up on unrelated matters.

They found documents which revealed his true identity.

Judge Nicholas Webb jailed Mann and also recommended him for deportation at the end of his time behind bars.

"It is quite clear to me you are prepared to use documents to further you own interests and disguise your identity.

"In the present climate that is a particularly serious matter. The use of a false identity is a greater threat to this country than a simple act of dishonesty."

He said he remained unhappy about the true facts surrounding Mann's identity because, at 29, he claimed to have a 17-year-old son, and ruled there was sufficient evidence to justify him being made to leave the country.
