The Manor House pub, in Mill Street, is being pulled down after more than six months of pressure from the Walsall Council planning enforcement team. Complaints from residents had prompted the authority to take action after the building fell into disrepair. Families feared that the building may be being used for drug dealing and claimed it was a blight blight, general term for any sudden and severe plant disease or for the agent that causes it. The term is now applied chiefly to diseases caused by bacteria (e.g., bean blights and fire blight of fruit trees), viruses (e.g., soybean bud blight), fungi (e.g. on the community. The move follows complex legal notices which were prepared and served on those running the pub. The owner had the choice to carry out repairs but instead chose the demolition option. David Elsworthy, Walsall Council head of planning and building control, said: "I am delighted to see that action has been taken on what has been an eyesore eye·sore n. "I would also applaud our planning enforcement staff for taking action to pressure the landowner into taking this course of action.
