DETROIT -- The Black Business Conference will showcase small business opportunities on Detroit's east side and provide information on financial, real estate and operational practices from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Golightly Career and Technical Center, 900 Dickerson (near Jefferson).

Dennis W. Co-sponsored by Chase, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Alpha Phi Alpha Alpha Phi Alpha (ΑΦΑ) is the first intercollegiate fraternity established by African Americans. Founded on December 4, 1906, on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, as a social fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha has initiated over 175,000 men into  Fraternity, Inc., the Black Business Conference will take participants from the classroom to the city streets for a motor coach tour of east side business and residential developments. The event formerly was known as the Black Business Expo.

The conference starts with 8 a.m. registration and continental breakfast and formally begins at 8:40 a.m. Between 9:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., participants may attend two of four workshops on:

Archer will speak during the luncheon, which begins at 12:30 p.m. The tours will follow at 1:30 p.m.

The $25 conference fee includes breakfast, lunch and the bus tour. Space is limited. Call (313) 256-0576 to register or for more information.

"We've organized the Black Business Conference to offer a combination of practical advice and an insider's view of entrepreneurial opportunities on Detroit's east side," said Marino Orlandi of Business Banking at Chase, one of Detroit's leading banks. "We want to provide resources and knowledge to help attendees build their dreams in Detroit."

Chase also has more than 280 branches across Michigan to help businesses with their everyday banking needs.
