 brought a suit against a county and corrections officials, alleging violation of their Fourteenth Amendment Fourteenth Amendment, addition to the U.S. Constitution, adopted 1868. The amendment comprises five sections. Section 1


Section 1 of the amendment declares that all persons born or naturalized in the United States are American citizens and citizens
 rights. The officers were subjected to disciplinary charges and one officer was removed from a privileged work assignment after he refused to assist in an internal investigation. The district court denied summary judgment for the defendants and they appealed. The appeals court reversed and remanded, finding that the officers failed to establish an equal protection claim against corrections officials because there was no showing that the officials intentionally in·ten·tion·al
